Campo del Cielo refers to a group of iron meteorites in Argentina, only found in a 2 x 12-mile area. These meteorites have an iron ore, also defined as siderites. Only 5% of the world's known meteorites have such properties. These rocks came from outer space and circulated the sun for some 4.5 billion years before landing on the earth traveled thousands of trillions of kilometers in the process. 

The name of this mineral comes from the aboriginal people who initially discovered and alerted the Spanish of its existence as early as 1576. Natives believed it had fallen from a specific position in the sky known to them as “Pigeum Nonralta”. In Spanish, this translates to “Campo del Cielo”, which means “Field of Heaven.”
